Tree assessments & inspections

General inspection

If you are looking for general advice for the trees on your property, this might be the way to go. While the arborist is not fully ‘assessing’ your trees, the arborist will discuss with you the following:

  • What trees you have.

  • If there are any obvious possible hazards.

  • Suggestions for you to maintain your trees.

No reports or documentation is written up for this service.

Ash Tree Bark

Level 1 Limited visual assessment

For this service, the arborist will actually be assessing the tree for risk. This is the simplest form of assessment offered. The assessment may be performed either from a vehicle or walking but may only include viewing the tree from one side. The arborist will complete a basic tree condition report for you. Some of the items on that report will be:

  • General observations.

  • Risk evaluation summary.

  • Recommendations for your trees.

This service can be helpful if concerned about a neighbor’s tree threatening your property and you would like documentation that an arborist looked at it.

This service is also very useful for large populations of trees on a property or in an area that you would like to have assessed efficiently, looking for obvious hazards.

Level 2 Basic Risk Assessment

The Basic Tree Risk Assessment service will give you a full understanding of the overall condition of the tree assessed. The assessment will be performed on foot, and requires the arborist to view the tree from all sides. Simple tools such as binoculars, tape measure, mallet, or others may be used. The arborist will complete a Tree Risk Assessment report for you. Some of the items on that report will be:

  • Identification of Targets.

  • Specified defects present in the tree or site.

  • Risk Rating of the tree specific to various targets.

  • Options to mitigate risk.

This service is especially useful for a prized tree that you want to maintain as long as possible. It can also be helpful if your neighbor is concerned about your trees that in fact are not a threat at all. Having a detailed report from a Certified Arborist is a weighty document.

This service may also be recommended following either a general inspection or limited visual assessment, in order to gain a better understanding of the condition of the tree.

Level 3 Advanced Assessment

An Advanced Risk Assessment is used to gain more knowledge and understanding about a specific area of concern. This assessment usually is performed at the recommendation of the arborist and approval of the tree owner, following a Level 1 or 2 Assessment. The results would then be added to the report for the customer. Some of the types of advanced assessments may include:

  • Inspection of Tree Canopy using an aerial lift, UAV (Drone), or climbing.

  • Root Zone inspection.

  • Decay wood resistance testing.

  • Inspection scopes into cavities to determine depth.

This service is also especially useful for a prized tree that you want to maintain as long as possible. Having the knowledge that an Advanced Risk Assessment provides can help you to make the very best choices regarding your tree.

While this service usually follows a lower level of assessment, you may certainly choose to have an area of concerned looked at in depth without already haveing a prior assessment.
