tree inventories

What is a tree inventory?

The inventory is accompanied by a report. This report is such that the manager of the tree population being inventoried will be able to break down their population by specifies, overall health & Vigor, and management plans to care for the trees.

“A Tree Inventory is a record of location, characteristics, and assessment of individual trees within a well-defined group.” (ISA’s Best Management Practices: Tree Inventories)

Who could benefit from a tree inventory?

Any establishment that manages a population of trees could benefit. These might include Municipalities, Property Management Companies, Business Parks, Chain Businesses, Condominiums, Trails & Parks, Cemeteries, Universities, and list goes on.

What are the objectives?

Some Goals and Objectives may be:

  • Safety concerns. The managers of the population are responsible for the safety of those around their trees.

  • Population Identification & Characteristics. Species, Size, Health rating, and other factors will assist with work planning, budget preparation, and policy development.

  • Maintenance Assessment. Planning the maintenance program is much easier when more knowledge and data about the tree population is available.

  • Work History. The arborist will be able to determine much of the work history that has been performed on the trees which is a benefit moving forward.

  • Longevity and Utility. A Tree Inventory could be performed once, almost like a single photo of the population. It could also be performed regularly to help determine the longevity of the the population as weather changes continually affect our trees.

Why beneficial?

Tree Inventories offer many benefits to the managers of the tree population as well as those who frequent the area. They provide Increased Efficiency, Improved Community Relations, Emergency Preparedness, Justified Budgets, and Documentation that supports action plans.

A Tree Inventory will allow you as the population manager to change from always ‘putting out a fire’, to being able to ‘prevent that fire’ from ever igniting.
